Re: Elite Test

I play in whatever way enables me to win quickly and get on with my life. This often just amounts to otab until my rc stops me, then use a consumable to escape. It's worked remarkably well for me so far.

Re: Elite Test

I tried playing "optimally", thinking deeply about every single move, once and I rank it up there as one of the most boring experiences of my life.

To be fair this was also back in the days of item dest so it's probably much easier now.

Re: Elite Test

Without having the faintest idea of what "optimal" play is, I could not practice it even if I wanted to. Generally, when I play I aim for entertainment, funnies, mental stimulation via tactical and strategic gameplay, and perhaps to obtain a win in the process. Sometimes, I just play like an insane moron, and have a great deal of fun doing so.

Re: Elite Test

I guess if we're talking in speedrun terms then I'm getting close to playing optimally, but if we're talking in the general winrate optimality terms then I'm intentionally playing very suboptimally.
Mostly because playing optimally for winrate would be making an already boring game (the time where I liked crawl is long gone) much more boring.

Did you know that I like ruining crawl every now and then? Go check it out.

Why are you still playing?

Re: Elite Test

Because there's always the tiny hope of potentially squeezing out another good character and maybe have some fun.
I sure miss the days where the game wasn't this easy for me, but that's just how it goes.

I'm trying to get better and better at Crawl, but it looks like maybe I shouldn't :D
