It wants 2 cure mutation potions, I have 5 (Rather a luxury compared to some games IMHO)

If you're going to stick to 3 runes, then I would.

e: Gonna outline my reasons. Mutations aren't even common to begin with in the 3-rune game and given that you're a blue name, I expect that you're probably pretty adept at avoiding them. On top of that, like you said, having five cure-mut is a luxury. Go to town, friend.

If you're low on cure mutation you can always take a dip inside a ziggurat and hope to find some.

And yes, a trove is worth 2 out of 5 cure mutation potions. Probably 2 out of 2 too, depending on how much your equipment sucks and how daring you feel.

Definitely worth it, zero mutation potions is good enough for a 3 rune game and 3 mutation potions could last you a 15 rune one if you have ways to kill things in the edge of your LOS

I had planned on doing 15 runes (I wouldn't typically go Short->Long blades in a 3 rune game) and haven't gotten a 3rd rune yet, I'd considering doing Abyss first in case something horrible happens there (I've been known to say "F it" and play suboptimally in the abyss with Berserkers particularly, because I'm always overpowered as a berserker, this sometimes gets me more mutations than it should, but it usually depends on how tired I am more than anything)

But now in the light of day and after a good nights rest and some breakfast, it seems obvious on the face of it that I should accept the trove's price, and not play heedlessly in the Abyss or Pan.

Worth it? Well, probably not, I was hoping for some no swapping fire resistance (Although honestly the rElec stealth ring I usually wear isn't a great sacrifice to swap)

The body armour isn't really helpful, the scale is the same AC as my mottled with larger penalties, and the cold plate armours don't do me much good either (If I really needed more than my 1 intrinsic pip of rC I could use an artifact +5 ring mail of rC++ that I was using earlier)

The blowgun is better than the +0 ones that have been lying around the dungeon, but I've actually sacrificed blowgun space for more crossbow ammo and evocables at this point, but I suppose I'll lug it around with me.

The MR cloak is probably worth it, I don't use the invis cloak much (don't ask me why, I guess I really hardly need it nowadays, it was super awesome in the lair for stabbing yak packs, but most things in the Vaults see invis, and aren't terribly threatening, so perhaps it's worth swapping out, to help avoid being marked in V5)

I'll drag the ring of stealth and amulet of warding out of the trove, I'm unlikely to use either, but they're the only instance of either I've found so far.

Overall, not really very exciting. I guess the 900 coins does let me buy a rod of clouds that's floating around in a shop that I've never quite gotten together the cash to afford (Although I was only like 2-300 short prior to the trove dive) that's kind of nice.

Of course, by the time you've done lair, the two rune branches, orc, elf, D1-15, and Vaults1-4, you've probably got pretty good equipment and aren't likely to see too many upgrades.

I would say the cloak alone is worth a couple redundant strategic consumables. Your MR situation was pretty bad given where you were in the game, so it's even a case of exactly what you needed when you needed it.

Well, I had two rings of MR laying around if I needed it, plus trog's hand is enough MR for most cases (I am at MR++ without it, and MR++++ with it in the invis cloak)

So the MR cloak makes me MR+++ "walking around" and MR+++++ with trog's hand. Since the cloak isn't (trivially) swappable and the rings are, I think the rings are more useful than the cloak, but it depends whether I want access to invis, (Which as a short blade user isn't an insignificant thing)

Yeah, I did, it rocked the heck out of V:5, sucked the welcoming party down into a edge corridor (fear+haste) and just wrecked them, acid, then fire, then acid, then draining clouds, combined with penetration bolts and a demon blade to the face for anything that staggerered it's way through that mess to get to me. Managed to get marked (a sentinal snuck up from the other direction with trog's hand down) and still took a total of maybe 40 points of damage for everything that came my way, it took like 500 turns to kill everything that came down to greet me. (That was one of those cases where I would've enjoyed a screencap of the thing, because it was just so rediculous)

FWIW the MR cloak was useful enough through V:5, but I swapped to a quicksilver dragon armour (killed and skinned a QS dragon in V:5) afterwards, so I swapped back to my Invis cloak for depths (I might go back to MR cloak later though, but for now Invis and +9 quickblade just make such short work of some of the baddies in depths + Zot that I feel like it's worth it, and I have MR+++ without it now)

I also picked up a buckler of resistance, which nicely fills out my resist holes. I wish it was a full shield, instead of a buckler, but it is what it is...

Now I just need some EW scrolls, and maybe a brand weapon scroll for my demon blade. :)
