Switching of items, spells, abilities (= command)
Currently, you can use the = command to switch items, spells, abilities. But for that, you have to remember the two slots. It would be much simpler if you could turn on a “swapping” mode while watching the inventory, the spells or your abilites. So here goes:
Pressing = within the inventory (i command), the spell list (I command) or the ability list (a command) toggles between “normal” and “swapping” mode. In swapping, pressing the slot of an existing item/spell/ability highlights it and pressing any other letter assigns that key to the item/etc.
Note that in principle we could also allow this mode change via = in the spellcasting commands (z and Z) — but we cannot allow them in the drop menu (d) because = means “select jewellery” there. There is also a slight inconsistency in that we have “view items” and “view spells” commands but not “view abilities” command. But this should not affect the above idea, just something to think about.
Would you say this is still desirable in its current form?
