Re: Thank you!

so this is the new person thread

whoops :geek:

Anyway, I actually got DCSS several months ago and fiddled with it for about a week, not really trying to win but just doing joke builds (Felid Chaos Knights!), and then a few weeks ago I got back into it and started playing "for real".

Currently the farthest I've gotten is beating the Snake Pit, but it's still quite a fun game regardless.

I'm also kind of stuck currently, since I think I took on the Snake Pit earlier than I was intended to (I did it immediately after clearing out the Lair), and then cleared the Orcish Mines for no particular reason, so I'm just not sure where it would be ideal to go next. I'm XL 16 for the record.

But enough about my minotaur's troubles. I mostly wanted to introduce myself. Hello. : )

Please don't hesitate to post in the YASD forum for detailed help on your character. Include a dump inside code tags. And welcome aboard.

Been playing Crawl on and off since a year. I'd like to address a huge "thank you" to every people behind the game.
DCSS is the game I always dreamt in my roleplaying youth, when i was frustrated by RPGs and was dreaming of a single RPG game where you would have only one life, where every character and dungeons would be different at each launch.....Now as I am dangeroulsy nearing my mid-thirties, I've found everything i have grown up with in a single game, with also the possibility to pause at every moment which complies nicely with my family....

For the moment, I'm obsessed with total randomness , Human Wanderers and never had the chance to catch a glimpse of a single rune :D I think I'll be around for some time before seeing Zot^^

Thanks to the awesome people who have and are currently putting their time and effort into making Crawl awesome. Started playing a bit over a month ago, got my first win a week or so ago, and on my way to my second (Gargoyle Monk of Chei) if I don't do something absolutely dumb. So much replayability and an addicting level of difficulty.

Long time reader, first time poster.

Thank you so much to all the contributors of this game, it's mind blowing how deep and polished this game is.

I haven't ascended yet and am still playing around with builds (FeTm at the moment), but half of the fun is learning what every background/species can do whilst dying over and over and OVER again, but hey, that's part of the sick fun that is DCSS.

You guys have ruined me for other games which are bland in comparison.

Please keep up the good work, it's amazing.

Well, I have to say that I too would like to thank all the devs for making one of the best made games I've ever played. Even thought I am a total noob at it (I literally discovered roguelikes about 2 weeks ago when the yogscast did a play through of Wazhack) DCSS has gained a special place up in the top ranks of my favorite games. It also helps a lot that there is a strong community spirit behind everyone involved that I believe will let this game evolve for a good while yet and never become broken :)

Back after a few months off, and I am very impressed with 0.13. The revamp to Conjuration over the last two versions has resulted in a really fun class with a playstyle markedly different from other blasters. Traps and Stabbing will not be missed, nor will nausea. I like my Gargoyle. The game just gets better as far as I'm concerned. Thanks!

Right but I spent several turns walking through miasma clouds and didn't get any rot. Is it random? I thought it was deterministic. It looks like I will need to use cloak of Thief in Zot :(

Thank you devs for the storm of commits today, which were for the most part awesome (especially deterministic poison!). The sheer amount of changes in 0.14 has been impressive, and I think the quality of the game has gone up sharply from previous versions (though others may disagree). Thanks for all the hard work, it doesn't go unappreciated!

Re: Thank you!

I was talking to a coworker yesterday and I realized in the process that Crawl is the best game I have ever played. Period. Granted, I'm 23 and a youngone, but this is the best RPG experience I have ever had. The race and class combinations are damn near endless. Combine that with procedural generation and you have a game with infinite replayability. Add playing trunk and you break mathematics as we know it. The balance - I don't know how it is possible, but it works. The devs know what they are doing.

It is all the more amazing when you consider that it is 100% free and community driven. It's called Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup for a reason. I love all of you.

Thank you for an amazing game! Everyone of you!

I've been playing Crawl off and on for about a year.. maybe 2? (Since just before crusaders and mountain dwarves vanished). Lurked on the forums for a long time but saw this thread bumped up to the front and figured its high time I say howdy to everyone. I'm too impatient to ever survive to ascend, deepest I've gotten is to the low 20's in the dungeon and 2 runes. I also tend to play rp/challenge characters even though I've never finished before but ah well, its fun anyway.

I'd have to vote my top 3 RLs as
1.Dwarf Fortress (if you count it, some people don't)
2.Crawl
3.ToME

Re: Thank you!

I just made an account since I thought I should join in on thanking the dev team for continuously developing this awesome (free!) game, as well as for inspiring Desktop Dungeons, which is probably my personal best game ever. I'm still really terrible at DD:SS, but that's mostly because I play it in short bursts separated by months of playing other stuff and I rarely have enough concentration to play properly anyway (my best character, If I recall correctly, made it to level 10 of the dungeon, but he had basically become Orc Jesus and unfortunately died because his enormous army of followers didn't follow him to get themselves eaten up by beasts in the lair with him or something like that).

Anyway, at some point I'll take the time to actually get good at the game. In the meantime, trying out all sorts of races and classes and watching them die to Adders, Orc Priests or Yaks has been a lot of fun, so thanks for that! =D

I already liked Fighters, and now with a potion of might and next tier starting weapons; I love them. :)

Potion of Lignification also awesome, so much better than slowing. Using those for high-damage battles(ogres) and saving might-agility-etc. is a nice help. I don't consider this a bad potion. Even if I quaff it Un-ID'ed, it's just waiting it out or using it's power to kill everything in sight.
