Changing locations for Saves

I'm a college student in Kansas, and I installed Crawl's latest version on my Flash Drive, as I have fond memories of toting 0.5.1 around with me everywhere. The new system of storing savefiles, however, makes that very difficult, if not impossible, especially when these damndable public computers, where I need administrator access in order to even access the folder. What I was wondering was: is there some way to change the location of the saves folder, so that I might play crawl wherever I go?

Thanks.

Re: Changing locations for Saves

Could be completely wrong, but are you using the installation version? If you just download the files the saves file is in the folder for the program.

Re: Changing locations for Saves

That's correct. Use the zip file version, not the installer.

Oh, and get a Trunk build. It is greatly improved over 0.7. Here is the most recent link you want:

Re: Changing locations for Saves

There's also the save_dir option in the init file.
You need to remove the leading '#' to activate an option.

  Code:
##### 2-  File System ###############################################
#
# crawl_dir  = <path>
# morgue_dir = morgue
# save_dir   = saves
save_dir   = ../test_saves
# macro_dir  = settings/
# sound = <regex>:<path to sound file>
Please report bugs to Crawl's bug tracker, and leave feedback on the development wiki. Thank you!

Re: Changing locations for Saves

I am having the same problem :( . I have my first 15 runer sitting on the exit but I don't want to go up the stairs because I am afraid I will not be able to find my save. I tired changing the Crawl directory permissions and the init file but I still can't find my saves there. Is there a different location for the saves in 0.8 if it is installed? I can't seem to search for the dir because I am not an admin.

I even tried a char dump but can't find that either

Check the FAQ (don't freak out if you already did, because I've just edited it :))
<+Grunt> You dereference an invalid pointer! Ouch! That really hurt! The game dies...
