Compiler error

I tried compiling crawl according to the instructions, but it says the makefile for pcre is missing or something like that. What should I do?

Re: Compiler error

What OS are you using?
What was the command you used to compile?
Does contrib/pcre/Makefile exist?

What do you mean by "the instructions?" Can you link to the instructions you are following?

Re: Compiler error

Have you run:
  Code:
git submodule update --init

I've never compiled it on Windows, but maybe someone will come along who has. That command is line 79 of INSTALL.txt, and on my Mac it uses git to pull all the packages that crawl depends on.

Re: Compiler error

No. I'll try that right now.
EDIT!!!
Nothing happened when I typed in the command, and it still gives me the same error.

Re: Compiler error

Are you using msysgit? Did you cd into the crawl folder before running git submodule update?

Yes, and no. I'll try that.
EDIT
I've got an application now, but it doesn't do anything.
EDIT EDIT
Nevermind, just took a while to start up. Thanks!
EDIT EDIT EDIT
No, wait, what happened was that I opened it through git. Either way, it still works.

Do you mean you've got a crawl.exe and it doesn't do anything? Can you be more specific?

Re: Compiler error

If you follow this guide through step 4, you should be all set.

Re: Compiler error

Ignore the thing about the exe not working, I've figured it out.
Thanks for the help.
