Species Proposal : Shell thing

Yes it's a crappy name ... shell thing is a humanoid turtle specie with good health, good naturals protections and affinity with magic, but low dex ability and movements.

Is that a good idea ? I need advise for balance it.

Level Bonuses
+INT every 4 levels
20% more HP than average
average MP
+5 magic resistance per level.
+1 AC every 3rd level due to tough scales

Innate Abilities
- Rough Black Scales 3 (maybe 1st rank that evolve with lvl) it only can wear robe, hat, gloves, boots and shields
- withdrawn at wish +10 boost to AC, fast regeneration but stationary but seems useless on agate snails (we could give a bigger AC boost or regeneration ?)
or a sort of withdrawn, at wish, +10 boost to AC, any action can be try with AC/2 penalty on skill aptitude, no movement or translocation possibility.
- Regen 1 or not if it 's too strong
- Slow 1 or 2
- Herbivore 1 or 2
- wild magic 1 or 2
- Blurry Vision 2 or 3

Is it playable and not too restrictive for play styles ? maybe it should be less magic oriented ...

I like the innate shielding and the tanky mage niche.

Gargoyles already do tanky mage pretty well, and nagas already have slow-but-tanky. I can't actually parse all of the sentences involved in the proposal, so I'm precisely certain what's being proposed, but I'm not sure this opens up enough new play space to be worth doing.

Sorry for my poor English :oops: I could try to explain the confusing sentences.

I've never played Gargoyles mage and did not think they do good tanky mage so my proposal must be inappropriate.
Does shielding could be interesting anyway ?

You don't need +1 ac every 3 levels and rough black scales as well. Rough black scales will end up at +10ac, -3 dex. +20% hp and 5 magic resistance per level seems a bit strong, maybe +10% and 4 per level. It would be nice to get some races with +health aptitudes rather than the -20% we've been seeing lately ;)

That's not how that works - With all your scales and ac bonuses, let's say you have ~25ac. Turning all your aptitudes to -12 is way off on the scale of things :) Could just make it a flat -1 or -2, but it's probably easier to give it a fumble chance not based on aptitudes at all.
