Question on Disjunction

Why is this spell level 8 (one higher than controlled blink)? Anybody thinks it's more useful for some reason I'm not aware of?

Re: Question on Disjunction

It blinks everyone who's near you away from you while it's active. (It's a status effect with a duration, not a one time thing.)

It's supposed to have a higher probability of blinking things adjacent to you (80%) with decaying probability farther away, but the math seems wrong.
0.8^(1/(dist-1 * dist+1))

That formula increases as distance increases.

<pedantic>There is no scroll of controlled blink, either -- the scroll doesn't give you semicblink in a -cTele area.</pedantic> ;)

Well pretty soon the spell and scroll will behave the same way, assuming that ctele gets removed entirely like I think is going to happen.

Re: Question on Disjunction

Well, that'll make disjunction a more important spell ;)

Re: Question on Disjunction

I'm confused on how this spell is supposed to help the player from a tactical perspective. Does Disjunction provide a large benefit over and above most current Tloc spells? In what circumstances would you use it rather than using Dispersal, Blink, or CBlink?

Re: Question on Disjunction

Imagine you're casting a generally better version of dispersal for something roughly between 5 and 10 turns in a row depending on your action speed. Because that's what it does.

Re: Question on Disjunction

... except that instead of spending 5-10 turns casting dispersal, you're spending those turns apporting the rune and running away.

No, it's correct: x^(1/2) means square root, x^(1/3) means cube root, etc.

Amethyst explains the formula on mantis.

Re: Question on Disjunction

Dah I forgot we were dealing with x < 1, so a square/cube/whatever root actually increases the value.

Re: Question on Disjunction

Also, the formula is for probability not to blink something. The chances to blink seem small, but get repeated for each tick of time elapsed. (10 ticks to a standard turn)
