Gloves Vs Gauntlets

I just noticed that unless enchanted Gloves and gauntlets are basically the same.
I'd like to add a bit of flavor into it.
I think that gauntlets should start with a slightly higher AC, but it hurts Spell casting success.
I mean it should be a bit harder to move ones fingers around in intricate patterns with heavy gauntlets on.

Its just an idea, so what do you guys think?

(Gauntlets can't be Elven and Gloves can't be Dwarfen)

I didn't know there was a difference - what is it? Apart from the racial thing?

There isn't a difference at the moment.

It's been suggested in various places to have one be soft and the other hard, like caps/hats (soft) vs helmets (hard) - with hard equipment restricted if you have any level of the relevant body slot mutations, and soft equipment restricted only if you have level 3 (although currently horns/antennae are broken in that you can still wear hats/caps with level 3).

I think adding more soft auxiliary armours is a bad idea. Firstly, allowing more slots is a significant and unwarranted buff to several races (spriggan and demonspawn lol) which also reduces variation in characters, and secondly, items that do nothing when unenchanted aren't fun to find like current gloves and boots are.

How about distinguishing them via egos?

Gauntlets of fumbling!

There are bracers of archery - are those just randart gloves basically?

Or is it just a "brand" like strength or dexterity?

All bracers in the game are "bracers of archery" and only they have the "archery" property.

Also, bracers lack a proper tile - now they look like every other gloves in the game.
