Transifex

Although the central place for design discussion is ##crawl-dev on freenode, some may find it helpful to discuss requests and suggestions here first.

Transifex

The transifex interface is operational now but it still needs some documentation and testing. I'll update this post with more information and links until the official announcement.

  • We can update transifex strings from trunk and pull new translations locally with a single command. Expect your contributions to be in trunk very quickly.
  • You can use the english language translation to submit improvements to the original text.
  • It is possible to submit quotes for entries that don't have one. In any language (we have a hundred quotes for about 1.5k entries).
  • No database files for now, only descriptions and quotes.
  • You can edit text online in the transifex interface or locally (and push your contributions with the transifex client).
  • When editing online, it's also possible to post suggestions for entries, and to view their history.
  • To see the key names when translating online, you need to enable verbose editing. You'll find it in the general setting thingy in the lower right.
  • Only reviewed text will be pulled to trunk. There's a reviewed checkbox for coordinators.

Re: Transifex

anyone have a link to the last users' poll? I dont want to bother translating to Malay if 20 people are going to play it. And most of us can handle english anyway :)

Thanks. But Im still not sure if it's worth translating... at any rate, I speak Korean and Malay, thinking as a dev do you think there would be a demand for either of those?

Re: Transifex

Korean is currently the most complete translation (38% done as I write this) thanks to an individual who's been working on it since before the official project. He'd probably be glad for the help.

Korean is indeed the most advanced translation, but note that those numbers are very misleading. They take into account quotes, which have many strings are not really a priority, and they ignore the large parts of the game which are still not ready to be translated.
And also, crawl currently isn't able to display any Korean character!

Re: Transifex

Pro tip:
  • Enable the verbose translation (option at the down right when in translation mode), this will help to see what you're translating
  • Use and Abuse the glossary (top of the translation mode). This will very helpfull to standardise frequent names (like species, skills, titles, etc.)and the poll is really nicely done
  • When you hesitate about your translation, keep in mind you can add suggestions (to add an alternate translation, or make comments)
  • There is a discussion tool for team. If you want to reply to someone, open the post.
