Also on an unrelated note my deep elf was transparent and I don't know why.

Mantis would be the place to post crash reports. I think there are a couple of Abyss-related crashes there but I've no idea if they're the same issue, so posting your save game and crash dump would probably help (I believe kilobyte is working on an overhaul to level types that fixes at least one of the causes of Abyss-exiting crashes).
