confusing touch overpowered?

As an Octopode Stabber, this level 1 spell is like voodoo! Cast it before combat, grab them, confuse them, stab them dead! You used to have to touch opponents bare-handed (tentacled), now it works with a weapon. As much as I appreciate this buff, I wonder if it isn't unbalancing?

For short blades, it's extremely powerful. For other weapons, there is a realistic danger of spending more time on damage-less swings than the enemy will spend being confused. The odds of this depend on your attack speed and accuracy, and the enemy's HD and EV.

It's also a bad idea against enemies that can 2 shot you or anything with HD at 20+, because it will take ages to do anything. Similarly weak to swarms unless you can get a corridor to control them.

It's a very MP-efficient spell and a great means to work around MR/rPois but it is not very turn efficient, and in some contexts that will cost you dearly if you still try to use it.
