Thanks Devs for the Gauntlet!

Hi everyone, just wanted to thank the devs for the Gauntlet.
It's really a LOT of fun, and well thought and designed.

What I like:
- option to exit
- PARTIAL view of what is expecting you
- the fact that you can prepare for enemies that you already know in advance

The name is not really intuitive to me (something like Arena would be more meningful) but it's not really a problem.

Thanks!

I agree, the gauntlet is pretty cool. Maybe it needs some tweaking as far as difficulty, maybe not, I guess I'm not sure yet, but I think it's a great design.

I liked the old labyrinth, since finding your way around it was outside of the usual o-explore scope.
And while I mostly enjoy the monster mixes and the really spot-on challenge level, I hate seeing items I will not get to pick up. It just makes me mad. Mastering the gauntlet should leave you satisfied with a sense of accomplishment and having earned some cool loot. Instead I'm left hating my sub-par "left or right" decision since my items cannot be better than mediocre compared to those uberartifacts on the other side of the gauntlet. Thanks, devs!

the intent is to provide players with a sense of pride and accomplishment for manually exploring the labyrinth

Do you mean as opposed to the Gauntlet, which you can just auto-explore? I 'd certainly agree with that.

I like gauntlet, mostly. I don't like that lab was removed.

I don't know why the final boss of gauntlet is the minotaur.

Indeed, how about utilising a new bunch of uniques as the Gauntlet keepers?
Also, enough with the constant removal!

labs were the only thing that kept the 'o' key from wearing out

That and they also never dangled any artefacts in front of my nose while singing "Nananana, you're never gonna get this".

Please put a black Human called "The Hammer" as a substitute to the Minotaur.

No, the maprot should have been removed many versions ago. It is bizarre to me that this was never tried in trunk, despite being requested by many players for years.

The maze was fun, with or without autoexplore. Especially in recent versions with all the flavorful minivaults. Maybe less fun for those of you who have played it hundreds of times. But you know, not everything in the game should be for the long-term vets.

I would bring lab back, without the maprot, without the random reshuffling, and turn the stone and metal walls into diggable rock.

the maze was boring and tedious. you just walk around, it's pure trial and error. all that the minivaults mean is sometimes there are hungry ghosts or redbacks but who cares?

I was okay with the Labyrinth because it was a break from the norm. I like the Gauntlet better, I did one recently and it required a strict judgment call that I couldn't cheese (eg by luring a dangerous enemy away from loot I wanted).

If Labyrinth came back to exist as well as Gauntlet I think it would be nice, but I don't feel a need to fight for it.

Once I had the Ring of Shaolin show up in one of those minivaults. And since there's no real punishment to exploring after you killed the minotaur, I guess it would technically be optimal to tediously explore the whole thing just in case something that good shows up. So that is extra stupid.

Except for the diggable walls, this is basically that Tar:7 vault ending, with all the lab-style single width walls. I usually hate that one because by the time I'm in extended I'm trying to save turns and that layout is horrible for saving turns, but otherwise it's fine :)

Thanks for replacing Lab with Gauntlet. It is great. More importantly, it's much better than Lab, in every possible way.
