Making online play more convenient

Hello, this is my first post here, so sorry if I do anything wrong. Anyway, I've been playing dungeon crawl for a reasonably long while, and while I have always like the idea of playing online, the fact that everything is presented so much worse, at least to me, then it is in the downloadable tiles version has always been a major deterrent to me. By this I mean the fact that you don't just constantly see your inventory or what spells you might have access to. Also you can't just click on something to use it, or click on a location on the map to move there, meaning you have to learn far more macros, and memorize what items you have at any time unless you want to check constantly. It just seems so much more inconvenient the the downloadable version, and I am just wondering if anyone in charge of programming for it has ever considered either changing it to be more like the downloadable version or has considered making a version more like the downloadable version. if not, I was wondering if there is any reason why. Thank you for your time.

It's just lack of development effort. All those improvements could be made if someone dedicated time to building them.

Funny thing, I've been playing Crawl for an unreasonably long time, I play the downloadable tiles version and I don't use the mouse for anything else than clicking the DCSS icon to start the game :) And the only thing I use the tiled display for is to sometimes check if there is a monster in view. It's much more convenient for me to hit 'i' and check the inventory (or 'I' for spells etc.) than visually scan the icons. I also don't use macros at all. To each his own..

I don't mean to criticize or question the OP and I also think that it would be nice if the online version was more similar to the downloadable one.

I agree 100% with the OP. I also think that players should have the option to toggle "instant-travel" as this is very disconcerting if you are not used to it. Ok maybe that is an issue of server-overload, but to run this game?? Amazing.

Unless something's changed, you do have the option to change it, but it's set to instant by default. (You can modify your settings to change all sorts of things, including travel delay)

Can confirm, that's configurable in the RC. I hate instant travel but love the footprint trail, so I set it to the best of both.

Having instant resting is really nice as well.

It's interesting, while some things, like mouse movement, would only help the online client, I personally much prefer the online client's interface. Whenever I play offline, I find myself missing big threats due to lacking the threat tracker, while keeping track of my inventory and spells is largely quite simple to do in my head. Different strokes and all, but it's just a good reminder that stuff like this isn't easy, since I'd probably throw a fit if you replaced my threat tracker with inventory, and that makes the task all the more difficult.
