Jiyva should allow you to attack hostile slimes.

Topic. I slimified Duvessa, then killing/attacking Dowan resulted in a berserker slime I could not attack without suffering penance.

That seems like a bug to me. Is that the intended behavior when you slimify Duvessa/Dowan?
