Swapping amulets of faith

Why does swapping an amulet of faith for another remove piety? It has happened to me several times when exchanging a normal amulet of faith for an artifact with faith.

Re: Swapping amulets of faith

Because taking off an amulet of faith makes you lose piety, even if you put faith back on afterwards. Preventing you from easily swapping amulets is the entire point.

Re: Swapping amulets of faith

If you are switching from faith to faith you should keep or regain the piety, as long as you take no action between removing one and replacing it with the other.

Re: Swapping amulets of faith

Lots of items have negative effects upon unwield/unwear, and none of them make any exception for switching to an item of the same type. Why should faith be any different?

Re: Swapping amulets of faith

Why make it an exception at all, have it so you can swap an item of any type that has a negative effect on removal to another of the same type without having the negative effect occur.

Re: Swapping amulets of faith

As duvessa says, the whole point is to make it costly to swap amulets. Moreover, things start getting weird when you consider properties like *contam and *drain. Do those still trigger if you're swapping to an item of the same base type? If they do, it's weird and confusing to have some unwield effects trigger but not others. If they don't, it provides a ridiculously easy way to avoid such effects.
