Zig the Orb? Exit Monster?

Although the central place for design discussion is ##crawl-dev on freenode, some may find it helpful to discuss requests and suggestions here first.

Zig the Orb? Exit Monster?

Where the Orb of Zot is, I thought, what if there were a zigurrat there instead, and the orb was at the last floor of it? And maybe it was a special Zigurrat where some Zot mutation was applied to all those inside it!

Also, when getting to the exit of the dungeon, maybe some final encounter monster and his buddies, a bunch of lords, show up to block the exit.

people wouldn't like the game very much because most players don't particularly enjoy building their character to clear 27 floors of a ziggurat

Re: Zig the Orb? Exit Monster?

Ziggurats are meant to be optional combat for people who want to make ridiculous characters and test their limits. They're not balanced to be something that every character can or should have to do to win the game. Making them required would be bad because, much more than the rest of the game, some characters are much, much better at doing Ziggurats than others, and requiring a character to get to the end of a Zig to win would dramatically limit the number of combos that can feasibly win the game for most players.

I'm also not exactly sure what the benefit of this is. It seems like you want something that feels more like a climactic final encounter than current Zot 5 and orb run, but it would help a lot if you explained the reason for your idea more clearly Some players have discussed wanting something that feels more like a "final boss" on Zot 5 than it currently does, and there has been a ton of discussion over many threads and suggestions about the orb run in the past, although I don't know if the devs have any plans of changing either in the future.

Re: Zig the Orb? Exit Monster?

yeah the end seemed anticlimactic like it needed something more for a big bang.

well, the zig gets harder each time, so a character never done it wont have it as hard as one that has done it.

plus, if there are zigs, why would the orb not be stashed in one if that is hard? i mean by whoever put the orb where it is, by Zot. zig is like a focal point, one final big thing to fight through and a final big boss, felt like it needed it.

This too will likely never happen.

Re: Zig the Orb? Exit Monster?

a final boss would be pretty awkward for characters that rely on movespeed, stealth, hexes and the like to avoid enemies. heavy armor melee has been getting direct/indirect buffs for a long time now...
