The Tavern

Most gods and races in crawl have at least one unique that represents them, but not Gozag, yet.

Here are some possibilities for a possible Gozag-worshipping unique:
- drops hundreds of gold when you kill it
- equipped with highly enchanted armour or randarts.
- can use a pseudo- potion petion to gain haste+agil+invis+heal wounds+etc (but only once -- a smart player will escape and come back later)
- likely to spawn near shops
- throws d100 gold at you to confuse and slow you (MR resists, and can only attempt this a few times, to prevent scumming)
- talks about how much it loves money



Any other ideas?

The shopkeeper himself is the unique. Upon entering a shop there is an N% chance that he'll come out from behind the counter to fight you. He has adjusted HD to your character level to make it a winnable fight. Win and you get whatever was in the store.

The Unique screams "No, no!" before exploding in a fountain of gold!

I would use word "spoiled" instead of "smart" here. Gozag's potions are not one-time thing.

The unique is friendly to PC and hostile towards other monsters and attempts to bribe PC as its first action, player gets a message "You need to pay N gold to prevent bribing. Do you want to pay it?". If player agrees, the unique becomes hostile to PC. If player refuses to pay, the unique continues to stay friendly but PC behaves as if tab was pressed for 20+ turns or until the unique is killed. Feel what brothers in arms feel

Always spawns on top of a shop. Unfortunately, the shop is closed because the unique bought it empty. Fortunately, the PC gets the loot when the unique is killed. Unfortunately, it was a food shop. The unique is either a troll or a ghoul.

In any case, the new Gozag unique should wear a top hat.

"Richard Rich, Baron Rich".

Bring back Lamia, give her 1k gold, make her leave a trail of that gold where she goes, make it so that she bleeds part of that gold when hit, give her petrifying touch and mesmerize, crumbles into a pile of the remaining gold upon killed.

Is a unique shop mimic

You paying the unique would be you bribing them, not the reverse.

That said, I think the idea of a Gozag unique letting you bribe it to become an ally instead of hostile is funny. I don't know if it would be fun in practice, but I like the idea in theory.

Mercenaries from decks were removed for a reason, I don't think they will come back as Gozag unique.
