Ripostes are inconsistent.

Ripostes function as a normal attack... kind of. They trigger aux attacks, but do not appear to trigger spiny or hydra head cutting. I have not tested, but whether or not they trigger damage mirroring effects, it would be inconsistent. Maybe the design goal was to never cause ripostes to actively damage you, but the interactions are surprising (even if in a positive way).

Possible solution: Make it clear in-game that Ripostes act as attacks that trigger any positive on-hit effects and do not trigger any negative on-hit effects. Confirm that interactions actually work this way (e.g. make sure it won't cause Royal Jelly splitting or be pain mirrored).

Alternative solution: Make a message saying "you consider a riposte, but think better" on anything that would have a negative on-hit effect. Notably, this would lead to weird interactions with Hydras, but Hydras exist to have weird interactions.

A different alternative solution: Make it like a "normal" retaliation (e.g. spiny, headbutt) where it can't trigger other on-hit effects.

A third alternative solution: Make it a regular attack, and just say screw the players who dodge hydras with a longsword as they riposte themselves towards 27 heads.

Re: Ripostes are inconsistent.

People who try to use EV against the LH die anyway, riposte just speeds that up by half a turn
