XL is much more informative than XP to the next level and should figure in the main screen, there's not much of an argument there. i also miss the values in the pool because they helped in some ways (to learn how much XP a monster you've never seen is worth, the effect of summons, and bug-finding even) but it doesn't make any sense with the new system (and it wasn't very reliable to begin with). if you want to know how far along you're in the XL race you can always type 'E'. note also that there are plans to remove explicit display of XP and to provide the progress to the next level as a percentage instead. that could figure in the main screen too.
as for identifying dangerous enemies (read: worth a lot of XP) there's the plan to give you a measure of their difficulty when you encounter them (like ash's divination thing), which is better in that you'll be told something *before* you kill it. if you really want more details, you can always use the bots.
