Make removing an Amulet of Harm cause rot

Make removing an Amulet of Harm cause rot

Just minor rot, like maybe 4 - 5 HP. Obviously this would involve removing the drain-on-removal aspect of it. This would still discourage amulet swapping, but would be much less annoying since you could fix it by quaffing one of your 30 potions of curing, rather than dealing with the very heavy drain effect it currently applies. Lower the increased damage taken to 8 - 10% and make it so that it causes minor drain if you take a certain percentage of damage to your HP in a turn.

It probably wouldn't fix the amulet, but I think it would at least feel a bit better. Currently I'd rather wear an amulet of inaccuracy in most circumstances than an amulet of harm, and I really don't get the impression that the amulet of harm was intended to be a bad item.

Re: Make removing an Amulet of Harm cause rot

I think when amulet swapping penalties were being heavily discussed there was a general agreement that amulets with tactical benefits shouldn't have strategic penalties for removing them (since the main goal is to swap in-combat tactical amulet swapping, not strategic amulet swapping when you decide that a different amulet is better for your character). If we're gonna get rid of the drain penalty, replace it with something tactical, not with rot. Item destruction was removed for a reason, I have no idea why you think having an amulet that destroys a few curing potions every time you take it off would be a good idea in any way whatsoever.

Losing a single potion of curing is way less annoying than losing all your skill levels early on. You're probably right about not having a strategic cost to it though.

This. This is the best. A thousand of awesomes. What an awesome use of the division of tactics and strategy! So "oDismissal has the "dizziness" when put on, and such.

And Laraso, you're probably right, but better than either *Drain or *Rot would be something like HP dropping, as if you were tormenting a DD with rN+++. (Maybe 10, 20 percent drop?) I'm sure some bright mind can think of flavourtext for that.

Of course, you have the issue of "if I take off the "oH, I'll die," but dizziness in combat could easily mean death, too.
