Should work the same as with scrolls and spell books I think.

you don't read manuals, you train skills while they're in your inventory.

spellbooks aren't currently ID'd when you're standing on them either, afaik? it'd be nice if they both were but it'd require some poking at code

Yup, you can quickly press r and id a spell book and be on your way. If you have 52 items you need to drop one, get the manual, and drop it if you don't need it. That's three turns that would only take one if you could "read" the manual while standing atop of it.

I made a similar suggestion before (specifically, identifying spellbooks and manuals when standing on top of them, and allowing scrolls of ID to be used on items on the floor), and I remember the general response being that it would be very difficult to implement.

I do still think it would be great if someone could, though. It would make having a full inventory way less painful.

I honestly never thought about it, but... yeah, I would like this. It's not like they can be cursed or anything, the single function for having them be unidentified is to see a vault or something where enemies are guarding a book and think "what book is that? is it worth it?" but I'm not convinced that's better/cooler than being able to see what book it is by looking at it.
