But the chance is not displayed in the game and players cannot learn how much Evo helps with destruction no matter how many games they played.
I suggest to display something like "With your current Evocations skill, it has N% chance to be destroyed and M% chance to summon monsters".

Evo skill should not change the destruction chance at all. It already makes each evocation more powerful, why should it give you more evocations too? It doesn't make your wands or rods use fewer charges.

So they don't have charges, but instead have a chance to self-destruct each time? I never knew that! The text, "used n times" suggests charges; after all, each roll for destruction is unaffected by the number of previously unsuccessful destruction rolls.

True, it is hard to balance an item when you don't know how many times it will be used exactly.
Or alternatively make other items work the same way. Wand of hasting being destroyed on attempt to recharge, for example. As a side effect it could lead to more interesting scroll of acquirement.

I considered making them single-use, but I thought that making them unreliable and unpredictable was a better nerf for them considering how they're often used, while also being more in keeping with the flavor. I mean, I'd have to rename it "box of beast"!

Edit: and the justification was both nerfing the items and also stacking, fwiw.

They're all combinations of multiple different animals, though, so it's still beasts. Or at least that's how I understood it, it's like the box puts together a chimera, and that's why it's chaotic and Zin dislikes it.

There's always been under the hood stuff... if it showed the chances for everything descriptions would get cluttered... I think it's best just to leave it to either the learndb or crawling through commits personally.

If sacks and boxes become single-use, like scrolls, will the ?summon be removed? We already have shadow creatures spell and rod of shadows! Why clutter inventory and make too much choises, lol?

I like changing box and sack to have fixed chances of destruction. The exact number doesn't need to be in the description, but just a comment that it can break on use.
