Cthulhu fhtagn! - about octopodes' aptitudes -

Hello, I loved to see the octopodes merged in trunk! :)

My suggestion is to level down the poison magic aptitude... leaving armour aside, I think it'd be better for them to have all aptitudes at zero, as IRL octopuses are very intelligent animals able to adapt to a lot of situations (and accurately predict football matches results :D).

If we really want to tinker with those already weird characters, I'd give -1 to fire magic aptitude and +1 to ice magic aptitude, since they are amphibious creatures!

A storm dragon comes into the view.
You sense a feeling of grave danger emanating from this creature.

This only appears to be the case, but it's actually a serious mistake in thinking that stems from multiple hypothesis testing. Imagine that we have 128 animals scattered around the world. For each football match, half of the animals predict 'home' and half predict 'away'. After seven football matches, it's announced that one animal (Aunt Lauren's pet Alpaca, for example) has the supernatural ability to predict the outcome of football matches! You never hear about the ones that fail.

There's an old stock scam that behaves in the same way.

Me too! And the tile is freakin' hilarious.

(I like the apts as they are, FWIW).

Shut up, you infidel! Bow down to the mighty abyss-spawned mind of the eldricht octopi, or you will suffer the consequences!

I'll check the tiles version just so I can see the tile then! :D

In the octopus experimental branch I can see the aptitudes are quite nerfed... low conjurations (sacrilege!), low shields (wtf with that arms they could handle two or three shields without problems) and low bows (ok I guess that's reasonable ^^').

Re: Cthulhu fhtagn! - about octopodes' aptitudes -

They have almost entirely flat apts in the merged version. +2 Poison, +3 Stealth, +1 T&D, +1 Evo, 0 everything else. Seems good to me - they seem like they'd make great hybrids later on but would prefer to start off as mostly pure casters to make up for their relatively weak, low-AC early game.

They're available online on CDO but the offline builds might not have been updated yet.

Re: Cthulhu fhtagn! - about octopodes' aptitudes -

I got mine prebuilt from the .deb repo (http://crawl.develz.org/debian) this morning, and it had them.

I had been building them daily from source, but thought I'd support the distribution of more platforms' binaries as a Good Thing(tm).
