Buff large shield of ignorance

+6 large shield with: AC+2, EV+2, Int-6, rN+, may recurse itself (one chance in 3)

This is one of the blandest unrandarts (alongside ratskin cloak). First of all, it's a large shield so it's a reasonable choice for very few races and -6 int means that you won't be using it if you care about spellpower. The bonuses are lackluster too.

Suggested changes:
remove recursing (it's not like you are going to be swapping it often or in combat)
add sustain attributes (any potential user most likely has fairly low int, so statzero is a large threat)
bump bonus ac and ev higher, say to 4

Also, since it is a unique item, it could have a unique and interesting/useful/funny powers associated through the shield powering your ignorance. Possible effects could be:
evocable dispersal ("You close your eyes and hope the monsters are gone.")
stopping enemy priests from casting spells ("What you can't see can't hurt you.")

Both would be useful against being overwhelmed by enemies since getting shields skill high enough to be able to wear a large shield is going to have a detrimental effect your offence.

Reducing the int malus would help a lot. I'd most want to use it on Berserkers who are probably close to the minimum starting int.

Re: Buff large shield of ignorance

Maybe if it could cut your Int in half instead of the flat -6.

I'd say give the shield some ability to block magical effects. Give it a chance to block beam-targeted hexes and magic beams, dependent on SH.

Add evocable cancelation. (But this may lead to grinding with randart identification)

Yes, that is why proposed some unique effects. You know, in the part which you cut from the quote.

Remove int penalty. Add wiz-- and a flat 1/3 (maybe 1/5) chance that any spellcaster in LOS flounders a spell.

What if it made enemies forget about you faster? What you can't see can't hurt you is already true in crawl, but take it to the extreme of block LoS for one turn with Fog; enemy forgets you.
