FR: Allow Stoneskin in Dragon Form
Ozo's armour is already allowed, and that spell gives more AC per spellpower. So this would be a minor buff to dragon form's AC -- but in most situations I'd expect Ozo's would be the preferred spell.
Currently, every dragon form character should learn Ozo's -- it's only 3 spell slots and it is castable for any char that can cast haste.
the intention is to make players decide whether they should skill for Stoneskin, Ozo's, or both.
This change could hopefully increase the number of situations where players choose dragon form (or possibly hydra form, see below) over blade hands, which seems like an improvement to me. it also does so in a way that's not a straight buff, as the caster needs to choose between the two buff spells (as blade handers do).
mechanical reasons:
- Stoneskin gives less AC than Ozo's, given similar spellpower, so it's not a major buff
- however, a human with enough transmutations and charms to cast Dragon Form and Haste may have interesting strategic decisions for which one to skill
- because Ozo's can melt, this may lead to interesting tactical decisions when facing multiple opponents (some of them firebreathing)
- dragon form is a spell that comes with big drawbacks and it can be difficult to build a character that benefits overall from the form. This would be a (small) buff to ease the loss of cool armour (or in the Fe case, the loss of awesome EV)
- strategic: this is a slight buff to characters who want to train high transmutations for Hydra form spellpower
thematic reasons:
- the transmutations playstyle is thematically about mutually-exclusive "buffs" -- this would tweak the playstyle a little more in favour of that
- Flavour: Stoneskin can be cast by octopodes, vine stalkers, statue formers(!), and draconians(!) -- why not dragons?
