Xom paralyzes you too much

I've played a lot of Xom games. My only unwon CK is MfCK (hopefully to be rectified shortly) and all of them have stuck with Xom all the way through. I've got a few complaints but with the weapon swapping resolved the real glaring one is how often an unavoidably you get paralyzed. I don't know the exact statistics, but it feels like you have a 5-10% chance of getting paralyzed for every turn you're standing in a cloud of chaos and in a game where you're getting a dozen clouds of chaos dropped on you it becomes almost guaranteed. The new expanding clouds of chaos make this even worse because you can't even reposition slightly to avoid it. I know Xom is the god of random wackiness and overall makes the game harder, but he should also make the game fun (or at least funny) and unavoidably dying because you're paralyzed is definitely not that.

Re: Xom paralyzes you too much

XOMish solution: if you get paralyzed, you have a 50% chance each turn of XOM slapping you with a trout, which wakes you up. In theory you might still get the full paralysis, but most of the time you'll wake up after only one or two turns. Other acceptable messages: Xom screams, "ENTERTAIN ME!", or "Still things are boring!"

I reckon this is what Sandman25 is referring to:

IMO Xom should do that sometimes regardless of paralysis source. CK buff!

That's good but I'm reading it as reducing the chance of a cloud drop from 1 in 13 to 1 in 22. That doesn't seem like that much but I'll see how it plays.

It's part of a long if-else chain (where if an earlier thing is picked, this one won't be), and this moves it significantly later. If I'm not messing up somewhere it seems like at the maximum 100 severity this would take it from 7.4% of bad acts to 2.7% of bad acts, and at 50 severity from 8% to 0.4%.

(7.4% comes from 97/100 * 96/100 * 95/100 * 94/100 * 93/100 * 92/100 * 91/100 * 88/100 * 13/100: the chance in the old code of failing all the previous chances then succeeding at this one; 2.7% is 97/100 * 96/100 * 95/100 * 94/100 * 93/100 * 92/100 * 91/100 * 88/100 * 86/100 * 85/100 * 84/100 * 83/100 * 82/100 * 81/100 * 80/100 * 79/100 * 22/100)

Cool that sounds a lot better and thanks for explaining. I'll try to give feedback but again I don't have a lot Xom games left.
