item-like butchering menu

I propose changing the prompt you see when you hit 'c', if there's more than one corpse on your tile, to this:
  Code:
Butcher (a)ll, (s)ome, the (b)iggest one, or (n)one of the corpses?

If you press 's', you enter the pickup (',') screen, where non-corpse items on the ground are hidden from view.
To select the corpse(s) you want to butcher, change their minuses to pluses, hit enter, and Bon Apetit!

edit: the "(b)iggest one of the corpses" is just the slightest bit spoiler-ish to new players, I hope that's OK.

Which prompt? There is a setting option when you happily butcher one corpse and can continue having fun with the game.

Re: item-like butchering menu

Yeah, I have that on. So what?

Sure, you can set the "press c once to butcher 1 corpse" setting as default...
...or you can just hit cb when you want some chunks from a corpse, no pain in that.
However, you also get to hit ca/cs if you're carnivorous/gourmand/starving/simulacruming.
You can also hit 'n' after 'c' if you just happened to press 'c' accidentally.

Re: item-like butchering menu

ca is honestly enough imo

especially since all edible chunks were merged into one stackable item
I love pitsprint and pitsprint culture.

Re: item-like butchering menu

Why is 'c' used and not consolidated into 'e'? Is there a time when you are standing on a corpse and you'd choose to eat food rather than chunk it?

At the very least 'e' should chunk a corpse and eat a chunk if the player presses it while standing on a corpse.

It will be bad when there is some danger. Eating a chunk from inventory is faster than butchering+eating.

I think 'c' 'a' should only butcher edible corpses, and corpses which can give hides. Why would anyone want to butcher inedible corpses anymore?

...to close a door they are one I guess? (you still gotta win skeleton roulette) I've done this for real in Sprint for what it's worth.

I think corpses should have a 2/3 chance to drop a hide when generated. No butchering needed.

Re: item-like butchering menu

Well, the existing mechanic of having to butcher to get the hide occasionally creates interesting situations, where you kill a hide bearing enemy in a retreating battle, and you want to get to the corpse before it rots. I know it's happened to me in the lair 8 dragon vault, where I really wanted to get that swamp dragon hide but it was too dangerous to butcher the corpse.

They should have a similar (but scaled appropriate to the actual percentage right now) chance to increase satiation. No butchering needed.
