Prevent useless butchering

Now that poisonous chunks can't be eaten, it's a little annoying to stand on a pile of mixed corpses and answer, "Do you want to butcher the Mamba? Do you want to butcher the Hydra? Do you want to butcher the Spiny Frog? Do you want to butcher the Blink Frog? Do you want to butcher the River Rat?"

If I press "A" to just butcher everything, I spent extra turns cutting up things into chunks that only Ghouls can use. There's no reason to ever answer "Yes," except maybe if there is something around that can create hostile zombies. Or if it's something that has a hide I want, but I only really need one hide per game.

So can it be made impossible to butcher corpses that can't yield hides or edible chunks? Just to streamline the process of butchering things that do yield edible chunks?

I would also like to add that it is boring and time-consuming to butcher chunks just to prevent hostile zombies created by shadow imp who can be wandering around next corner. Is it possible to make such corpses "unzombifiable" by hostile monsters if you stepped on the tile with them when there were no hostile monsters in LoS? Or will it make Animate Dead too powerful for player since you will be guaranteed you will be able to use the coprses first even if hostile monster has Animate Dead too?

Just let monster Animate Dead use chunks in view or in inventory to create monsters. Either make them abominations or pick a zombie the same way shadow creatures picks a summon.

Hm, I was pretty excited about this thread based on its title, but I regret to say the proposal here is somewhat more timid than what I'd hoped for.

I like the idea but we should somehow have a way to create Swamp Dragon hide. Also it is a nerf of Animate Dead and Simulacrum.

Just let people eat monsters off the floor like in nethack. No carrying chunks around.

I haven't played Fedhas since the change, the idea of inedible corpse leaving-monsters not leaving corpses would be a nerf to Fedhas as well I think?
OP's suggestion seems most reasonable.

This was an incredibly irritating change in the first place that made Spider about 50 times more annoying than Spider is already, and has absurdly little gameplay gain if any, so......

The change makes no sense on its own. As far as I understand, it was done to test "chunkless" in a small part of the game. Anyway, this is offtopic.

I think the game should recognize 3 types of corpses: 1)edible, 2)misc*, and 3)inedible-and-no-hide.
First it should go through edible corpses, starting with the corpse likeliest to produce the most chunks.
If you say 'yes' to a particular corpse, the game should just butcher that corpse without further questions.
If you want to butcher yet another corpse, you have to press 'c' again.
Yet there should still be some more options beyond y/n, like 'butcher all' and 'butcher all edible corpses'.
*- not edible but capable of producing a hide
