Remove Item Destruction

Isn't item destruction gone? Nope; not the kind I'm talking about.

Can we remove the 'dropped into water/lava, gone for good' mechanic? My reasoning:

  1. It leads to weird/bad tactics, which are tedious and not interesting choices. For example; a character seeking a Swamp Dragon Armour may feel the need to lure dragons off of water tiles to kill them for a chance at the hide, they may end up doing similar to get the equipment of any flying, aquatic or amphibious creature (including with lava instead of water for trying to get Salamander equipment); or even to get chunks in the Swamp or Cocytus; due to the small amount of land in those areas.
  2. Raise Dead is stronger for Water Races in Water branches; since corpses that fall into water are not affected by an animate dead call by non-water creatures. This point is counterintuitive to the point of bizarre and makes a huge balance difference.

Change to:
  1. Corpses float and can be reached through flight or ice form and remotely affected by Raise Dead.
  2. All other items sink and can only be reached by Apportation, unless the character walks in the substance.

If (2) is real, it should be fixed.

also, slimes eating items is the only reason stashing in specific places is still optimal

That's been true since like 0.13, at least. O_O; I thought it was intentional, TBH.

I've been watching GDD for long enough to notice little edge cases like this come up every 1-2 months, most responses are like "I never noticed that" or "oh wow, that is odd" etc. You'd think they'd have all been ironed out by now, but they aren't. (not a diss to the dev team - crawl has a huge amount of such cases) This thread, as well as things like the mummy/tarantella confuse thread, are generally the kind of GDD threads that actually get patched, while all the race/god ones end up going no where unless the poster codes it themselves.

I expect there will still be plenty of future odd cases reported that people aren't really noticing right now, too. There's also a couple of "it's odd, but no one can figure out something better" cases, like sandblast taking a stone, ammo mulching (this is being worked on, but it's been around forever), etc.

Also, I am not sure what exactly happens when there is a corpse in water and you pray to Fedhas. It seems to say that Fedhas accepts your contribution to the ecosystem, but there are no mushrooms. Do they drown immediately? I don't think so because it doesn't say that you feel guilty.

the toadstools grow underwater. like the corpse, you cant see them underwater, because the water is murky from all the monster poop in it

Re: Remove Item Destruction

To help further differentiate water and lava, let lava continue to instantly destroy items.

Re: Remove Item Destruction

Lava and items should mutually annihilate.

(not really, that's a terrible idea. Well, maybe only if the item is above a certain value, so that carrying around 12345 stones wouldn't work. Probably still terrible though.)
