Unique: Redhawk

The son of Runs-With-Buffaloes, Redhawk is a tomahawk throwing Chief from a nearby tribe. He always has randomly branded tomahawks along with a leather armour, and a war axe. After getting trampled in a buffalo stampede, he's chosen to enter the Dungeon to train his skills and become a worthy hunter and Chief of his tribe. Once he catches you in his sight, he'll scream his war cry non-stop, alerting others of your presence until either you or him are dead.

HP: 30
HD: 4
XP: 100
Speed: 10
AC: 0
EV: 12
MR: 15
Appears on Dungeon 4-9

Re: Unique: Redhawk

15 EV is HUGE for early dungeon, and giving an unrandart leather armor all the time is probably too much. Make it usually an enchanted one, with a chance to be an unrand? Seems like all that ranged damage (branded tomahawks can be nasty) might be more suited for d8-10, and lair 1-4 or so. But that kind of adjustment can depend on actual testing, I don't know what his exact damage output would be. Lower his EV to 5 or so, imho (yaks have 4 if I remember correctly, for comparison)

Constant screaming is interesting, although I'm not sure it gives the players many options on how to engage him.

I'm part Native American, this is all historically accurate.

Thanks for the input.
Blork has 9 EV(at least wiki says so), this guy is supposed to be light and fast. Dropped it to 12. With the leather armour, it changes to 3 AC, 11 EV. ;)
Giving him a standard war axe(11 base damage) & leather armour alongside his branded tomahawks(6 base damage).

I dunno about racist, but this is a stereotype from the wrong genre.

Re: Unique: Redhawk

I like it. There should be more uniques on the lower floors. It should appear a bit deeper though, if you run into him on D4 you just get instakilled i think.
Also is it a human or some other race?

Re: Unique: Redhawk

Or just move Urug lower since he's utterly uninteresting where he is right now and avoid having a completely bizarre new unique occupying the same niche

Re: Unique: Redhawk

Crawl already has enough fictional racial stereotypes in it, I don't think we need to add examples from real-life. I don't have a problem with a unique being native american, but this guy just seems like a crazed sports mascot.

Like how would people react if someone proposed a unique who was a black guy with a dumb name that does voodoo magic and has a bone through his nose.

The fans on /vg/ would probably be all for it.

Onehawk
Twohawk
Redhawk
Bluehawk

More seriously, this guy is just a weak Urug but with more racist undertones.

Re: Unique: Redhawk

Why are we running into a Native American in some vaguely medieval Europe environment? And what are these 'buffalo' you speak of, strange crazy foreigner? I know of Death Yaks and Elephants and other vicious evil quadrupedal hellbeasts, but this 'buffalo' sounds like a fairy tale to me.

Only thing interesting about this guy is the incessant screaming, drawing everything into the fight if you try to retreat. Which honestly sounds like: if the guy is manageable, it's irrelevant. If he's dangerous enough to justify fleeing, he risks becoming a death sentence to a lot of characters. No thanks.

Maybe he's referring to a European Buffalo
or a Water Buffalo
or perhaps an Italian Buffalo
possibly even the African Buffalo.

I said 'vaguely' for a reason.
