Fruit Reform

Proposal to simplify fruit to remove unnecessary flavor that exists at the cost of a lot of inventory spaces for a simplified state.

Fruit as it stands now:
  • Snozzcumber
    • 1500 Nutrition
    • 5 Aum
  • Orange/Banana/Lemon
    • 700 Nutrition
    • 2 Aum
  • Pear/Apple/Apricot
    • 600 Nutrition
    • 2 Aum
  • Choko/Rambutan/Lychee
    • 600 Nutrition
    • 1 Aum
  • Strawberry
    • 200 Nutrition
    • 0.5 Aum
  • Grape
    • 100 Nutrition
    • 0.2 Aum
  • Sultana
    • 70 Nutrition
    • 0.1 Aum

13 types. 3 groups of three identical ones. It's bloated and overly complex to the point it's not worth carrying much fruit at all (wouldn't spend half that many inventory slots on fruit; unless you are of Fedhas Madash and even then you are tempted to stash supplies). All take two turns to eat.

Proposal:
Keep the unique tiles and maybe even the unique flavor texts on eating, but simplify for practical purposes to:
  • Snozzcumber
    • 1500 Nutrition
    • 4 Aum
    • Same as a Sausage, but for Vegetarians.
  • Fruit
    • 1000 Nutrition
    • 2 aum
    • Replaces {Orange, Banana, Lemon, Pear, Apple, Apricot, Choko, Rambutan, Lychee}
  • Berry
    • 200 nutrition
    • 1 aum
    • Replaces {Strawberry, Grape, Sultana}
    • Unique: Only takes one turn to eat. (Other fruit takes 2 turns, Chunks take 3 turns, Rations takes 4.)

Snozzcumbers are (mostly) unaltered [1 aum reduction is a minimal change.] Fruit now stack and are worth carrying for nutrition (offers same nutrition as a chunk and can be eaten while full on most races; eat one to equip a Vampiric Weapon, etc.). Berries offer a unique single turn effect (useful for when a mage is starving in combat and just needs to cast one more spell).

MarvinPA wrote:"Pieces of fruit" could be a single item type using the speech database for messages like pizza does. Presumably the flavour message for strawberries/grapes/sultanas would be "a handful of <whatever>" to justify them having whatever nutrition value the item ends up getting, sounds good to me.

Patches welcome!

Feel free to add to the original thread if there is anything new to say, I don't think we need three identical threads otherwise. Bumping old threads in GDD is better than starting new ones in cases like this where the old discussion is still perfectly applicable.
