make cards ammo with limits, remove legendary/etc. types
the basic critique of combinable decks was that nemelex was (is still?) overpowered, and limiting access to cards via inventory was a method of balance. support for the proposal generally expressed that the inventory restriction is annoying because players instead spend inordinate amounts of time managing inventory or making stashes.
Maybe a good compromise is to make cards stackable, like ammo, but limit the stack size to something that would satisfy the need for balance?
The cards would be simply of a deck type (destruction, summoning, wonders, etc). unknown stacks occupy their own slot, and cannot be combined, forcing players to sacrifice a card in each unknown stack to id and combine them.
One of the biggest side effects is that the penalty for drawing more cards than available, with the three and five abilities, would be lost.
For something like this to be feasible, the quality characteristic also needs to be removed. This characteristic is really just another complexity--players already have evo and piety influencing spell power, and the quality nemelex grants seems correlated to piety, giving it a de facto double effect. Moreover, nemelex grants new decks pretty steadily as old ones are consumed, and players typically just burn through low quality decks and save the high quality; essentially players are scumming for the high quality decks.
It really seems, to me, a win-win. this gives devs more of what they want, control over game balance with the ability to tune stack size limits and removing player ability to scum legendary decks. this also gives players what they want, with less micromanagement of their inventory.
As is, I don't care how OP nemelex is, I won't play him except with races that can't use or don't need and entire item type (food: Vp Mu Gh, armour: Op Fe). If balancing a god means making it unenjoyable to play with most races, I don't think that's a good solution.
