Add Rods to autopickup at game start

Could it be added to the initial autopickup selection to pickup rods for non-felids?
I can not see a reason to not pick them up.

I totally agree, since rods are generally really good to find and usable on basically all characters. More so than spellbooks which are on autopickup by default.

In the meantime you can just add this to your rcfile:
  Code:
autopickup = $?!+"/\%


Also if you want runes this will probably work
  Code:
autopickup_exceptions += <rune of zot

Unless there is a symbol for it in autopickup that I am missing, which is probably the case :)
