targeted curse/bless foo.

Although the central place for design discussion is ##crawl-dev on freenode, some may find it helpful to discuss requests and suggestions here first.

targeted curse/bless foo.

Propossal:
Scroll of curse/remove curse is targeted. You can target an ally or enemy to curse or bless his weapon/armour.

Benefits:
Scrolls of curse foo gain a small tactical advantage. Currently scrolls serve no purpouse in the game after you have identified them (unless you worship Ashenzari).

Players will be able to remove the curse on friendly units. Currently there is no way to do that. Beogh might improve a non randart item that an orc might wear and dispell the curse but it is unreliable and non orc allies never gain that benefit.

Cons:
Players might be able to avoid cursing their own items easily.
Players may identiffy scrolls of curse/bless foo easily.
Interface is slightly more anoying.

Why would you need to?

To uncurse the randart that your orc warlord just used.
To uncurse the sling/bow crossbow that your mercenary is using.
To curse the weapon that the monster is using and force him to use a range or melee weapon.

I don't think "because I want to have more tedious equipment micromanagement" is going to really work as a reason to add something to the game.

Re: targeted curse/bless foo.

You also get more tedious scroll-id and self-scroll-use as an additional bonus.

I'm confident that this will never be implemented. The possible gameplay upside is far outweighed by the additional complexity.

Lately I've noticed a push on the team toward simplifying the game: separating ranged and melee weapons, removing Mara's mislead power, getting rid of frayed nets (I promise I'll do this...) Crawl is a large and complex code base stuffed with a lot of nonsense. If we're able to remove marginal features and clean up the code base it'll be easier to deliver a better game.
