Armed, spellcasting gecko: what causes this?

Why did this happen? Giant geckos don't normally use weapons or cast spells.

EDIT: I see now that I was misled, which is presumably the answer to my question...

Yes, mislead is funny sometimes. After retreating upstairs in swamp I saw a Curse skull. Only after killing it I realized it could be a Hydra and I am an Axe user so basically it is not a good idea to fight monsters while mislead because it can be the worst monster for your weaknesses.

yeah, misled can be terrible.
once, I was fleeing from mara, with 20% hp, on swamps, when I saw an orb of fire. almost cried. never saw one before.
blinked away, but it blinked next to me. when i started running, thanking Okawaru it did not burn me to ashes, it became a insubstancial wisp.
should commit seppuku after that.

Mislead is quite confusing on its own, but if you add your illusion spamming butterflies (like you never did) to the mix, you're guaranteed to see your worst nightmare.
And, i believe, Misled status isn't healed by !curing in recent versions of Crawl unlike it used to be. So, it's a lot more annoying now.
Offline greaterplayer (who cares). I don't always play online, but when i do, i streak felids.

On the other hand, when you have an army of Oklobs, Misled is HILARIOUS!
