Crossing Zot Traps

I'm delving deep into the Tomb & Crypt for the first time (thanks to finally getting Necromutation castable) and I've come across a couple of places where a Zot trap is blocking my progress.

Without semi-controlled blink (I only have normal blink) is there a safe way to traverse these traps? If I have normal blink, what are the odds I might get dumped into the trap?

Can a zot trap trigger unlimited times?

Re: Crossing Zot Traps

If you don't want to grind for Controlled Blink, then regular Blink is your best bet. Rapid Deconstruction and Shatter can get you in, too, but odds are the grind will be even worse than Controlled Blink. You're probably looking at about a one-in-six chance that you'll get dropped on the Zot trap before getting dropped on the other side, so make sure you have to take the minimum possible number of trips. On the plus side, on the way back up with the Rune teleport control will work normally.

You can also teleport roulette to get past it, but be prepared to face three or so greater mummies at once if you get a bad result.

Zot traps do, indeed, have infinite charges.

Re: Crossing Zot Traps

If you stand next to the Zot trap and blink, then you won't land on it. Just keep trying until you end up on the right side.

Re: Crossing Zot Traps

You can't use semi controlled blink by the way- Tomb blocks all forms of cTele. The only way past that is to random blink till you get lucky.

Re: Crossing Zot Traps

You certainly can semi-controlled blink - the spell "Controlled Blink" degrades to semi-controlled in areas with no cTele (such as Tomb). Blinking with a ring of teleport control or a scroll won't work though, if that's what you meant.

Re: Crossing Zot Traps

The main thing I'm worried about with the Zot trap is the Abyss banishment. not that I think my character can't handle the Abyss at this point, but I want to tackle it at a time and place of my choosing, not Zot's.

Re: Crossing Zot Traps

I think Zot traps can go right through rMut, like Xom. And it's not like that's the worst Zot effect he could trigger either. In narrow corridors like that, clouds could be pretty deadly. Or getting penned by fiends (any even if you got by them, they would inevitably trigger the trap again when you ran).

Marivn, yeah, I meant blink+ctele and the scroll wouldn't give you control. Didn't know about control blink degrading that way!

Edit for ninja: Dude, if the abyss scares you, you have no business being in the Tomb.
