(I currently opt to not learn Inner Flame on FEs for these reasons; it's pretty hard to control. Maybe when I get Fireball online remote IF-detonation will be less dangerous.)

It can take a long time to wear off if Xom uses it, but yeah, it wears off. It's actually one of my favorite spells savageorange. Up to 60 damage + flame clouds is really powerful for a level 3 spell. Hint: Many of the more powerful orcs are accompanied by popcorn orcs. Just don't use it anything faster than you and you should be fine.

Actually inner flame with animate skeleton is fantastic, it's pretty good without it, but you have to be very careful where and how you use it.

Very powerful, very dangerous if used improperly. Fortunately creatures rarely die without you taking direct action against them, so it's pretty easy to avoid blowing yourself up if you understand how the spell works.

I haven't tried that, but what if you petrify, then inner flame, then LRD? Will it go double-boom? Oh and isn't it a good idea to cast inner flame on a giant spore(when it's about to hit you)?

I tried that in wiz mode at one time for possible Fedhas hijinks, but the inner flame explosion didn't occur (just the regular spore explosion).

Yes. Of course that uses 4 different spell skills, don't know that it'd be worth it, fun though.

Inner flame is pretty great when used cautiously. As others have noted, it works really well on creatures that pile up on the other side of a conjured flame. I definitely had characters who opened doors to bee rooms that would have been very dangerous if they weren't able to just plug the door with a conjured flame and then use inner flame to clear the room.
