When to take on OKA Wrath?

I've got a MiFi of Oka that I need to transition to TSO to take on extended and I'm trying to figure out when to do that. I have the Silver, Gossamer, and Barnacled runes, but should I complete Abyss and Slime while still under Oka? I've left crypt for TSO piety (version 11.2)

Secondly, just a question about waiting out Oka wrath: I have boots of levitation, so I can just perma-levitate over deep water or lava, but I thought I remembered reading that it has to be lava. Can some monsters still reach me while over deep water? If not, waiting things out in a corner of Shoals seems as easy as anything.

Re: When to take on OKA Wrath?

The most common things oka summons are giants(fire/ice/stone), they can walk over the deep water. I see you have some nice AC and SH, if you could get rC+ and rF+ giants wouldn't be such a problem, probably.

Re: When to take on OKA Wrath?

If your going to take the wrath, rather than waiting it out, I suggest a source of blinking since they spawn around you. TSO won't help too much for slime, Zin can help if your worried about mutations; that said, Oka's finesse is still good, and since your leaving it becomes more spammable. I shouldn't talk too much about slime, I tend to avoid it.

Re: When to take on OKA Wrath?

You have a cloak of preservation and a lot of AC and SH, so I think slimes should be pretty easy, but be prepared, that what can be corroded might very well get corroded. Abyss is quite easy, too, but it doesn't make much sense to go there, before you clean up the crypt with TSO.

Re: When to take on OKA Wrath?

I usually tackle Slime before making the switch. Finesse makes Slime:7 pretty easy. I'd equip some other junk that Oki has gifted you in shield, head, and cloak slots since those bonuses aren't going to help you much in Slime and why waste the enchant scrolls. I'd go back to Shoals and grab a few Javs, preferably Pen, but Steel would be good too... And use them plus Heroism to take out Shining Eyes before they can mut you.. Rod can probably be used too though.

I wouldn't bother waiting out Oki wrath. Just be sure you have a way to blink and you should be fine. As a L2 spell you can get the skill necessary pretty quickly and probably by the end of Slime if you just train Tloc.

Re: When to take on OKA Wrath?

That hat should be put off before you do slimes, imo. Oh yeah, I kinda forgot about eyes. Remember that mutation is beem-targeted, so if you cover behind some other creature, it won't be able to mutate you, until it's adjacent to you and then you want to kill it quickly. If I don't have rMut I don't do slimes without some powerful evocable spells like bolt of inaccuracy or maybe freezing cloud(I've never done this, but it should work on slow shining eyes). You don't want to spend extra turn under it's gaze, though.

Secondly, just a question about waiting out Oka wrath

I don't think this is necessary, it's unlikely that Oka's wrath will be a real danger to you. The only problems I can think about are

  • getting surrounded. As mentioned by 1010011010 any source of blinking will solve this problem.
  • sometimes Oka sends a titan who is able to cast electricity spells. But your ring of Rotyunt {Wiz rElec MR} will help. Should you wear another ring just switch to it if a titan appears.
  • If you are very unlucky Oka's forces show up when you're low on HP. I had this once in a zig and survived.
Oka's wrath is not too dangerous, you're already at XL24. If you are careful you should be able to handle it.

Re: When to take on OKA Wrath?

Well, I successfully made it through Slime, though prior to reading about the javelin suggestion, which would have helped. I also waited out Oka's wrath without issue.

Two other questions have arisen from these prior posts:
1. How do I train to blink if I can't even learn Apportation (it's at 100% failure). I guess what I'm asking is how do I get the first level in Translocations?

2. I made my conversion to The Shining One and cleared out Crypt, but it didn't provide enough piety to get me to 6 and allow me to bless my demon trident. I'm stuck with a +4 bardiche of dragon-slaying in the mean time, which wastes my shields ability. Where should I go to get the remaining piety? I'm thinking of doing some levels of pan, and just bailing out if it gets rough, but I'll take suggestions.

Re: When to take on OKA Wrath?

Unequip your body armour and shield, and wear some INT+ items. That'll make it memorizable even without any skill.

Oh, and as for the last few stars, the Abyss is great for farming TSO piety. Pandemonium is... nastier.

Not until you hit max piety and seduce it to the light side anyway.

You can also drink a potion of brilliance to help memorize a spell that you can't train towards, but taking armour off is nearly always enough for a level 2 spell like Blink.

Okay, thanks for the spell-learning advice, and I'll head to Abyss for the piety, and hopefully the rune while I'm there.

Is it worth continuing to train Evo to use that rod of Destruction for the Inaccuracy Bolt, or should I spend that experience on Translocations and spellcasting instead?

Hey, I wanted to thank everyone for this help on this thread. I ended up learning Blink (which I don't think I ever used) but I also used the advice in this thread to learn summon butterflies, which ended up being exceptionally helpful to block line of sight of creatures with mutation abilities. From there I went on to my first 15 runer, so thanks.
