Ghouls, from the grave with hunger

Hi Everybody,

I've always been charmed by ghouls, their insatiable appetite, their undeadness and their sharp claws.
But really I cannot understand how to proceed with one of them. They seems pretty weak to me, and I'm sure I'm missing the point as being always hungry and having your HP decrease if you do not eat looks to me like something that forces you to go Kiku and skip everything else (and remain a gimped spellcaster or a half melee).
Could anybody please enlight me on what I'm missing about the grave hungers and give me a couple of hints on how to run one of them successfully?
Thanks a lot in advance,

m.

Re: Ghouls, from the grave with hunger

train uc, eat the dudes you kill to regain hp, don't rest fanatically because you have slow healing
it *is* true that they generally make lousy spellcasters, so maybe you should at least try to focus on melee unless you know what you're doing
makhleb helps a lot

forces you to go Kiku

i don't even
what is it with people and hunger in this game

Dunno, probably they're against profaning corpses.

And makhleb is a great choice, but pretty much every available god is good.
screw it I hate this character I'm gonna go melee Gastronok

i get anxhious. You never know if the next enemy will drop you a corpse. So basically I should play it like any other race in the game, and i shouldn't become nervous about the guy appetite? And in the late game, what do you do?

Ghouls can eat all chunks, including mutagenic, rotten, and poison, and doing so recovers HP. They're probably one of the easiest races to keep satiated.

Re: Ghouls, from the grave with hunger

by late game you do the same as the early game
if by that you mean "extended", you worry when you get there, but you should have a ton of permafood by then and there are some corpse drops. it's not the least annoying 15-runer but it's not so bad

And makhleb is a great choice, but pretty much every available god is good.

sure, i mentioned it because it's the least annoying gh for a first-timer, and gh is actually sort of annoying (just not anywhere as much as the OP seems to indicate)

Re: Ghouls, from the grave with hunger

I thought the same as you about ghouls and extended, but then a post by cerebovssquire convinced me to give it a try, and 15-runed a GhMo without too much trouble. Ghouls have one of the easiest food games available, especially when you consider that they get healing and lose rot when they eat chunks, and all chunks are edible.
