You can quaff it for some nutrition. I quaff potions of brilliance for nutrition also.

Yeah, blood is safe for Tr (carnivore mutation) to drink. For others, there's a 1 in 4 chance of getting sick (or higher if you have the herbivore mutation).

It's definitely blood. If you leave it in your inventory for a couple thousand turns, it will decay and turn into a potion of coagulated blood. (This will identify both potions.)
