Is A Trove Worth 2 Acq Scrolls?

I'm playing a 20lvl DECj blaster and I found a trove that asks for two scrolls of acq. It so happens that I have them (wanted to postpone acquiring until later to have a better choice). So is it worth spending two acqs on a trove?

I'm fully covered in spells area, so I don't need any books, and I don't need a weapon, but I have meager armour slots and I could probably use armour acq. On the other hand I'm kinda afraid to get two shields from acq or smth (I already have a buckler of prot). Is it practical to hope for a randart robe or a hat of alchemist from a trove? Or should I just go use those acqs?

Think of a trove as a whole bunch of acquirement scrolls, except you don't get to pick what you want.

Also not reading acquirement is silly.

Why use an acquirement when you have enough means to deal with any threat or indeed run away from any threat in your current surroundings?

E.g. I knew I can clear orc and there are shops on the bottom of orc and perhaps they contain exactly the books\armour\jewelry I wish for right now. Should I really waste an acq scroll on what might lie behind the corner?

Acquirement is one of those things where people get quite divided in opinion. It's not a no-brainer to use them ASAP but it's also not a no-brainer to always stash them away for later.

Incidentally, troves give 16 items and the game tries (i.e. will screw up) to give you a category you are lacking in.

I'll try the trove then.

Possible response #1
So you want to save this acquirement because the pile of acquirement in Orc:4 might give you the same item?

Possible response #2
Why use an acquirement when you have enough means to deal with any threat
Then items are irrelevent because you already won.

Possible response #3
the correct acquirement is wand so your argument is irrelevent

Funnily enough it did give me 16 items, all jewelry.

Not really, I should have gone for armour acq. Most of the jewelry was randart, but there were no truly great pieces. I was somehow under impression that troves give randomized loot, if I knew that troves are thematic, I wouldn't have risked hoping for an armour trove.

They can be thematic but I found that most of the time you get a mixed bag. Personally, I'd take trove over two scrolls most of the time - don't forget that you can get unlucky with acquirement, too (I'm talking to you, boots of stealth for my melee tank).

River trove seems to always give randomized loot, I never seen it giving good loot though.

(I'm talking to you, +0 buckler because I haven't found a fucking shield yet).

Fixed that for you.

Trove gives you a lot of disappointment. Two acquirement scrolls only give you two instances of disappointment.

Well, by V:5 I found my 4th scroll of acq, so far the most dissappointment-packed game I had ;)

How big of a dissapointment was the scroll?

Can scrolls of acquirement be renamed to scrolls of disappointment via init.txt/.rc file?

+1 robe {rPois, Acc+3}. And I already did the Snake and the Swamp.
It's funny how it's always exciting to get an acq scroll, but actual drop is rarely something I put on immediately, except when it covers an empty armour slot.

Yes, it's worthwhile to spend two acquirement scrolls on a trove. It's not going to be worth it 100% of the time, but the risk can easily be worth it.
  Code:
j - the +5 helmet "Bonlom" (worn) {Acc+2 Dam+6 SInv}
(You acquired it on level 15 of the Dungeon)

though acquirement can be surprising at times

Well I just got 5th scroll and a useless scale mail randart from it for my DE caster.

Come to think of it the trove was totally worth it, at least I collected all jewelry types (including much needed rMut).

If I already had the three big wands, then I would probably give the scrolls away happily. Even without them (or if I have two + haste spell), I would probably give them away because the trove disappoitment is such a special kind of of disappoiment in Crawl. But on the latter case, I would feel like a fucking idiot doing it :D.

Acquirement is much maligned but I regularly get things from it that are immediately useful. I certainly find troves much more disappointing usually. But actually 2 acquirement scrolls is a pretty cheap trove given some of the things they ask for.

I still think it's a good idea to leave scrolls untill you find all the generic stuff including branded.

Generally speaking, I would rather let acquirement fill an armour slot right now, rather than wait and hope I fill the slot soon and maybe die in the mean time because I didn't have that extra AC. If you fill all your slots, acquirement might give you something useless. If you have empty slots, it's extremely likely to give you something useful. Anyway that is an early game consideration; the OP had an XL:20 character, clearly no reason to be holding off on acquirement at that stage.

FTFY

I hate armor acquirement for this reason, barring races that can wear barding. If I've got a good weapon already (or a good staff on a primary conjurer), I just go for wands. In the unlikely event that I have a good weapon, the big 3 wands, all my jewellery slots filled, enough books to allow for spell growth and I'm not worshiping Fedhas, I'll take armor.
