Why 0 + tab chain didn't stop?

My bardiche-wielding DjGl of Okawaru got the Snake ending with lava and salamanders and was happily abusing reaching while clearing it. At the very end of this vault, he was hovering over the lava lake while most of his enemies couldn't attack him outside of melee range. However, the killing process was taking too long and i decided to speed it up (well, actually i misunderstood the spectator's advice but nvm) by repeating tab 40 times with 0 key. My autofight_stop was set to 50% and i recalled 0 key being generally safe, so nothing lethal should've happened, as i thought. However, my char just made a step towards the anacondas and happily died without ever stopping fighting. How could this happen? My attacks while hovering were very slow (1.5 turns for attack, i believe) but 1.5 turns shouldn't have been enough for those snakes to do 75 damage through 32 AC: judging by the morgue, i was tabbing for at least 15 turns.
I also tried out 0 + tab combo as a lvl 1 offline char, and it interrupted even when a giant gecko bit me...

You were surrounded by 7 monsters, they could kill you in a single turn.

You could see a naga warrior, 3 anacondas and 9 black mambas.

As a tiles player, i don't know what § stands for (probably just lava or smoke over it), but that's not a glyph representing any of the monsters i could see. So, i was surrounded by only 3 of them at the last moment. There also were a couple of guardian serpents who could attack me with weak venom bolts and got killed.

Why were you "very slow"?

Why were you "very slow"?

Hovering slows djinn down: it takes 1.5 turns for them to move over shallow water/deep water/lava, their attack gets slowed down as well, and i don't know about other actions.

Anacondas and black mambas are fast monsters, so they could have attacked you multiple times before you had a chance to move (by which time you're already dead).

Also you were being constricted. Constriction damage builds up over time, it can quite suddenly become very serious.

Answer: set your max autofight health to something higher like 75%. Edit: oh, and don't use the repeat command :)

Then we have the answer, no? Black mambas and anacondas can attack multiple times in 1,5 turns, plus the anacondas were also constricting, which ignores AC.

Yes, fast constricting monsters are nothing to laugh at, but those snakes clearly haven't dealt 75 damage in one my turn. Look at this, please:

Each turn resembles character's action, right? So, i was at 16 hp in the middle of 55785-th turn, at 7 at the end of 55787-th and died at 55788-th. Hence the game could at least let me know things are going wrong and pass me the control.

Haha, that's an obvious reaction to such a situation, but after that being written by a developer, i'll resort to punching those plants manually. Better bored than dead.

Well, this is certainly wierd.

Another idea: is it possible you were already below the "low hp" limit at the beginning of the repeat attack? And perhaps autofight only stops when you cross it?

That'd have been too insane. I started the tab chain at rather high health (essence), at least 80%.

Does it make a difference? Any repetiton should stop if you are hit, this is just common sense.

Yes, from some testing it seems that repetition usually gets stopped by even a small amount of damage, nothing to do with the 50% HP limit for autofight. I don't know why it didn't in this case, getting bitten should certainly have done that, although it's feasible that there could be a bug that constriction doesn't interrupt the repetition.

What am I missing that's showing tab being repeated in the message history? It doesn't look like he ever takes any action, just that he's killed by the monster actions resolving in between his turns.

I actually went as far as downloading the ttyrec and playing through the last few turns at low speed. There are definitely several turns with messages saying "You miss the anaconda" while he is taking damage and at low health.

I got killed by Lamia not long ago, and it was her constructing that did me in over and above the PArrows and everything else. Between the dmg and it preventing your escape it can be one of the more dangerous attacks around.

if you're going to use bardiche over lava, why not do it where you can't be attacked from instead of where you can?

Autofight script thought that stepping into 1-tile range of anacondas is a nice idea, and i never got a chance to move afterwards.
