Skeletal Warriors

Quick question about (subject), what on earth about skeletal warriors makes them magic user-ey enough that Trog appreciates their killing? Is this a bug, I did a little searching, but didn't see anything on the topic. Or maybe is this just a bone thrown to Troglodytes that want to clear the Crypt / Tomb and not rely on Necrophages for piety? I'm sure the answer is an easy one, and if there is a topic discussing it already, please ignore this thread (but point me in the direction of same!).

Re: Skeletal Warriors

Thanks, buddy. I swear I read that entry 25 times, but somehow missed The obvious spellcaster tag. I have never noticed these dudes animating The dead, but that's probably a lot to do with being in an undead smashing rage. In any case, I am thankful for them.

Re: Skeletal Warriors

You don't notice them using animate dead because there are no corpses/skeletons in crypt for them to animate....

I just meant in general. They do appear outside of The crypt fairly regularly, I just hadn't noticed them using the spell. Blame my lack of paying attention or caring. By the time I can handle these monsters, the game is pretty much on auto pilot until Zot.

You'd think that something called a Skeletal Warrior would be more intimidating, really.

Ghouls are much in the same category as Skeletal Warriors - can something be done about them too?

Though ghoul rot is always a danger -- admittedly one that's fully mitigated by enough !curing.

Re: Skeletal Warriors

but not something that needs to be buffed either. one of the worst moments on crawl for me ever was ending up surrounded by 3 ghouls after a very unlucky teleport. rotted me for like 70hp before i got back in control of the situation.

That one ending where you fight through that temple thing in a forest is pretty fun.

Only because you can go pyro and burn the entire forest down in like five turns.

Now just lower their AC and remove their pack status and you can be the new #1 best dev.

Re: Skeletal Warriors

I like Skeletal Warriors. They almost killed a couple of my characters in Crypt and I had to go elsewhere. They often use Polearms and it means you can't easily melee them (unless you are a tank with good EV) because you are attacked by at least 2 monsters.

They're a credible threat if they appear at like D:15 or so. In Crypt (and Tartarus) they are just trash mobs to clean up.

My SpEn almost died doing it. I guess I should have retreated earlier instead of getting glow.

Uh yeah, that's a given. If you are glowing, you are not invis-stabbing.
