If I am standing on a big pile of various things, how can I see the list of them? And also, how can I pick one of them?

One thing to note is that if you're standing on a pile of things gg works exactly like g? but if you're only standing on one thing, gg will pick it up and g? will still give you the menu iirc. I don't think this has led to YASD for me yet, but it has caused me to take damage when I didn't mean to - 1 turn to pick up something, get burdened and 1 turn to drop it.
