Worshipping Xom

I played Chaos knight several times, and I think I can win at least 3-rune game with him, though I don't know what class/race would be best for him. Tried troll CK, but because of their weak AC it gets really difficult in mid-game. (Facing hydras is an absolute nightmare). Has anyone won with xom? Is there any tip how to not the get the message "Xom is getting bored" (I'm thinking of invoking cards or reading random scroll of uselessness) or what background should I take?

Just ignore the "Xom is getting bored" message. It doesn't really mean much when he's bored; you will get a single bad action (I recommend you just go press 5 until it happens) and then he's back to normal.

play a mick or a hock, ignore all the messages.

edit: well yeah what crate said i guess, i don't bother with that. trck is a bit of an acquired taste though. anything that can wear plate easily works semi-reliably.

Shields IMO are actually not bad with trolls - you don't lose a fraction of damage of your main attack, you lose a second, weaker attack. And trolls, being huge, don't need a lot of skill to use a regular shield.

Of course, a good dragon armour helps too, but a shield is usually easier to find.

What about ogre? I don't like the idea of having to fight with bare hands.

Uh, one of the appeals of TrCK is not having to rely on a weapon that Xom can prank you with. Anyway, if you do want to care about Xom's boredom, carry around wands of random effects and polymorph. There's also the option of drinking a confusion potion and deliberately tripping up while trying to go up stairs.

Oh, question: is this 0.12 Xom or 0.11 Xom?

If you want to fight with a weapon then I would recommend mfck or mick or hock. OgCK is probably ok too.
