how to use shroud effectively?

hi folks, I'm back from my self-imposed hiatus after acting like an A-hole on the forums. Sorry for that.

Anyway I've been messing around with Skalds and absolutely cannot tell when it's worth it to cast shroud. Is it ever worth casting shroud or should you just keep stabbing?

It is pretty much always worth it to cast shroud in regards to survivability. Whether or not it is worth the hassle is up to you.

I'll keep casting it then, but it seems so rarely worth the loss of an extra hit if it fails in battle...

Well, stopping to recast it in melee range of an enemy is of questionable value since, as you point out, you're sacrificing potential damage output. I might renew it against something with weak but fast attacks like a killer bee, but probably not against an ogre or orc warrior that would likely just smash it on its next hit anyway.

Sorry, I meant before every fight. Casting it during a fight is probably not worth it.

Shroud is effectively +10 hp on average.

These are the kinds of problems that make me wish we had permanent buffs ... I know this has been brought up before, but I haven't seen any discussion on this in quite a while.

Shroud of Golubria would be a corner case when implementing permanent buffs. Each time the spell diverts an attack, it has a chance of being ended immediately.
