Yet Another "Where Do I Go From Here?" Post

Ok, I thought I was ready for my assault on Zot, but on Zot:1, I ran into an orb of fire. And even though I was wearing a necklace of resist mutation... I got hit with three mutations, including teleportitis 1, before I got smart and ran away. I have no cure mutation potions. Advice?

Do you have any non-IDed rings? Do you have a ring of tele control in a stash somewhere? My personal inclination would be to try to get tele control, and then let the mutation work for you. If not, try to find an amulet of Stasis, until you can get rid of the mutation.

EDIT: Oh, wait, you have tele control. Just cancel the tele if you don't want to move, or else just pick your location.

It's not quite that grim. Teleport control will do the job until Zot 5, and for that there's the amulet of stasis. Or an artifact with -TELE, if you happen to have one.

That said, for Zot 5 your best bet is probably teleport roulette, even with the new complications added to the layout of the Orb Chamber. Get the hence to the down staircase of Zot 4 with teleport control, a big stack of teleport scrolls, all the teleport and healing wands you've found so far in the game, several speed potions or a wand of haste, and a couple potions of invisibility.

Once you're in Zot 5, start spamming teleport every chance you get until you're close to the Orb Chamber. Spend turns while you're waiting for teleport to kick in spamming Makhleb's demon summoning, but only when you're on either the right or the left half of the Orb Chamber, not both. A lot of the chaff will run over to fight your demons, and that will leave the other side marginally more clear. When you randomly land close enough, dash for the Orb and hope for the best.

There is basically no incentive for you to kill off Orbs of Fire, but if you must then bury them under summoned demons and then farm piety off draconian packs.
