Do player ghosts get to keep their ranged attack ?

If you happen to die or run into Mara with a ranged weapon equipped, does the resulting ghost fire missiles ? Does it have limited ammunition ?

Player ghosts don't get ammo. So ghosts with launchers equipped are pretty pathetic (assuming they don't have other options, like a breath weapon or spells).

Their ranged weapon gets turned into a melee weapon with the same brand and stats, but I don't know what base damage it ends up having (since Nobody Understands Ranged Combat)

The melee damage ends up being really bad. You don't need to know more than that.

Yeah, it turns out even a longbow-of-velocity-wielding ghost can barely do any damage at all

I'd like to point out that "like a draconian breath weapon" is more accurate here, since nagas don't spit in the afterlife and mutants don't either.

Hunters leave the most pathetic ghosts. They're just huge piles of xp basically. I think, that should be fixed somehow. Give them some spectral arrows or something.
