*Groan* HaHu again?

So I'm playing my first HaHu in an attempt to actually get past Liar:3 instead of get sort of lucky with a MiFi. I picked a sling as my starting weapon because darts are a pain in the butt and I kind of remembered that Ha's have very high sling aptitudes. It's been going well, I'm out of bullets but have enough stones to last me to the next pile, but, I was wondering, where should I go for a god? If you've looked through the CharDump below already, you can see I have the right rings and armor to do a psuedo-mage attempt with Sif of Vehumet, but Oka has a reputation for handed out ammunition for no real reason and Heroism and finesse are always nice. It'd also allow me to train a close range weapon a whole lot easier. Thoughts?

Re: *Groan* HaHu again?

First of all, this belongs in the CiP forum... Character Builds is for discussing builds, not specific characters.

In regards to this character, Sif Muna and Vehumet are both terrible choices. Okawaru and Trog are both a lot better, my personal preference being the former. However, immediate survival is probably going to be easier with Trog, while Okawaru will be better long-term because HaHu will really benefit from support spells (Portal Projectile, Sure Blade, and the more generic charms and translocations).

Also, use stones against anything not threatening or slow. Bullets should be saved.

Your skills are in a mess. For now, I'd get some Short Blades to conserve ammo. Ctrl+f "short blade" to find something better.

For this message the author cerebovssquire has received thanks:

Re: *Groan* HaHu again?

I put it here because I'm trying to fine tune the way that I'll end up using the class combo- any other suggestions are welcome.
EDIT: And, while we're on the topic of other suggestions, how worth it is it to train armor skill on a HaHU? Should I just go with mottled dragon or should I look for something higher?

I've been meaning to learn about how to skill train properly, but I never really did. Should I turn off all skills but my weapon and means of avoiding damage for the first three or so levels or should I let them level like I have, but not do so many skills?

Re: *Groan* HaHu again?

For weapon users you generally train your weapon skill until min delay. That's fairly easy to figure out for melee but a lot trickier for ranged weapons, just train ranged weapons up a fair amount first, then diversify. Usually dodging or armor/shields is useful next, or invocations depending on god, etc.

But basically just train weapon asap and then split out into defenses. You shouldn't have more than one or two skills on at a time. Late game (after 1-2 runes) I will often leave on 3-4 just because I'm too lazy to turn them all off/on repeatedly, but doing that early game is much harder than changing your skill setup frequently.

Be wary of having stasis around your neck. If you need to haste, blink or tele you'll waste 0.5 of a turn (1.0 if you put on a different amulet) to remove it.

Re: *Groan* HaHu again?

Found that out on that character actually. I don't remember if that's what killed me or not, but I got in trouble with either a ghost or Gnoll Sergeant and quaffed a speed pot and then saw the stasis message and facepalmed.
